What is WEF?
The Weymouth Educational Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit charitable organization created for the purpose of enhancing creative and innovative learning opportunities to encourage academic excellence for all children attending the Weymouth Public Schools. The Foundation was begun in 1995 by a group of parents, business people, educators and other community supporters. All members are volunteers interested in ensuring the excellent quality of education in Weymouth. The Foundation raises money from individuals and businesses in order to provide enrichment to the academic programs that directly benefit students. Donations to the Foundation will be used to augment the traditional resources that finance the public education system.
The mission of the Weymouth Educational Foundation, Inc. is to enhance and broaden community support for public education and to provide private funding for innovative and challenging programs in the Weymouth Public Schools.
Why Does Weymouth Need an Educational Foundation?
With the reality of diminished resources over the last ten years, Local Educational Foundations have developed to enhance the educational opportunities for both students and teachers. As shown in the neighboring communities of Quincy, Hanover, Norwell and Hingham, as well as others throughout the State, local education foundations do make a difference. These programs are bringing communities closer to the schools, and schools, in turn, are drawing closer to the community. Barriers are being broken down and bridges are being built. Weymouth's students deserve the same opportunities.
